5 steps to help with that new Puppy

5 easy steps to preparing for a new Puppy

The new  puppy has been chose and its arrival  is eminent, now what? Let us make a few suggestions to make this easier.

1: Puppy proof your home as much as possible.

This is easy, but valuables up a litter higher!

2: Go buy an appropriate size of collar and leash.

There are great options out there, get one what is adjustable and fits the neck, but gives room for growth. A leash is a must for keeping your dog safe on walks and visits to the front yard. A retractable leash is not a bad idea, it can really help with the command COME.

3: Get some good chew toys and play toys.

Puppies want to chew and play. Get some durable stuffed tows. Also go get a good chew. DO NOT USE RAW HIDE AT FIRST. We have found that elk or deer antlers work best. They are safe. Raw hide chews can lead to stomach infections and blockages.

4: Go get a good appropriate sized crate.

We like the kind that has a divider.  An area to sleep that does not allow for a lot of spinning around will really reduce the number of accidents in the crate. Start crate training immediately. This will make your life much easier and your dog will be happier.

5: Get good water and food dishes.

Make them the size that your dog can get at the food easily. We like going bigger vs smaller. Also get good food! We really like Kirkland’s Blue Bag Puppy food.

Have fun, puppies are great fun and easy given a some attention to the items above.
